Oh What A Week!

What a week it has been around here. Last Thursday night Hayden threw up and was running a fever so I took him to the doctor Friday morning....flu. Saturday afternoon Kayla came home from spending the night with a friend with a fever and complaining of her stomach hurting and her throat hurting.....took her to the doctor Sunday....flu. Monday morning I got a phone call from my husband, Ken that he was in the emergency room hooked up to oxygen and they had given him medicine to slow his heartrate down....it had reached 240...and he drove himself to the emergency room....if he hadn't gotten there when he did he would have had a heart attack...he is 35 people and otherwise perfectly healthy! So, they admitted Ken overnight...he was eating lunch when all of the sudden he looked at me and said "it is happening again"....his heartrate got up to 271 that time and they had to give him 2 vials of medicine to get it to normal. They immediately took him to ICU where he stayed overnight and they got him on a medicine to stabilize his heart from here on out. He was also running a fever....tested him....yep flu! Absolute scariest moment of my life was watching my big strong husband who never complains of anything frantically asking the nurses and doctor to do something more for him...it was awful and with my cellphone in hand I texted out a text asking everyone I knew for urgent prayer. I could have easily lost my husband that day. Ken was released from ICU Tuesday afternoon with follow up visits this Friday and next Thursday. His heart has been ok but he has been pretty miserable from the flu. This morning I woke up to him telling me someone broke into his truck and stole his hunting jacket, mask, gloves and duck calls....seriously...why would someone want that stuff??!! One of his gloves was laying on the ground in the front yard. So, when it rains around here it pours and I am praying for a better weekend....I don't know how much more I can take. I have somehow managed to avoid the flu and am ok except for some serious stress!

No more pain...

Well, after the achilles pain last week I took the rest of the week off but still did my long run Sunday of 8 miles. I'm not going to lie the last mile was rough....my achilles didn't hurt but my legs didn't want to go anymore. I made it through it though! I also ran a "short run" today of 5 miles and everything seems fine:) I'm ready for this half to be over...the training is wearing me out!

Fabulous Friday

I have had a GREAT day:) Kayla's school was out Monday-Wednesday of this week and yesterday and today they have started back at 10a.m. Today Hayden and I dropped her off at school and went to Walmart for groceries, came home, had lunch, watched Toy Story 3 for the millionth time, picked Kayla up from school, took her to gymnastics, went Cyclefit class at the gym, picked her up from gymnastics and now we are home and dinner is finishing up in the oven. I'm looking forward to a relaxing night with the family cuddled up on the couch. It is SO cold here....it was 8 degrees this morning....this is ALABAMA!!!! I wanted to tell you about my new favorite snacks I have found. They are SO yummy and yes I have tried every kind:) 130 calories for 38 straws:) The cinnamon apple straws taste almost like the cinnamon twists from Taco Bell...oh YUM!

Sob Fest 2011- Episode 1

I really should be posting cute pictures of my kids playing in the snow since they were out of school/preschool Monday -Wednesday of this week due to 8 inches of snow here in Alabama! But, instead I choose to whine about my current ailment. I woke up this morning with severe pain in my right achilles tendon. I can hardly put any pressure on that foot. It HURTS! The half marathon is one month from yesterday. I have 4 weeks left of training. I ran 7 miles this past Sunday and have missed one run this week but was planning to run today and then my long run of 8 miles this coming Sunday. Well, that is out! The treatment for achilles tendonitis which is what I am pretty sure that it is.....7-14 days of rest and the usual ice and ibuprofen. I am SO disappointed. I don't think the half marathon is going to happen now and I have worked SO hard....I mean....me running 7 miles is a miracle and running 8 this coming weekend was going to be even more of one....and 13.1 was just going to be fabulous...:(
Lets see....running has caused....tendonitis in my left hip flexor, pretty sure I have it in my right one too cause now it feels like the left, sesamoiditis in my right foot and now achilles tendonitis....I'm just one big case of ITIS!

Gatlinburg- New Years Trip

My Dad sent me a text message last Monday saying that he wanted to go snow sking and needed help finding a place. We use to go to Colorado when I was little but now it such a hassle to get out there with everyone's work schedules and not to mention the fact that my husband hates to fly. So, I spent all day Monday and Tuesday trying to find a place in North Carolina because we have been to Beech Mountain the past two times we have been sking. Well, there was nothing to be found so we turned to Gatlinburg. It was our last choice and I had a hard time finding anything but finally found a cancellation for a cabin. Dad called and booked it and the rush was on to gather up ski clothes for everyone who didn't have any. This was the first time my step-mom, my step-brother and my kids had been sking. Me in Sports Authority...I bought me a new beanie for the trip:)
Wednesday was spent rushing around finding everything and then me and my kids left with my Dad and his bunch at 8:00a.m. Thursday morning to drive to Gatlinburg. My brother, his girlfriend and her daughter and Ken drove in later that night.

Arriving at the cabin Thursday afternoon

We had to be up bright and early the next morning to get in line to rent equipment because it was such a busy weekend. We left our cabin at 7:15 their time which was 6:15 our time. Hayden took to sking right away and I took him up on the slopes. Kayla struggled and was getting frustrated and my step-mom was having a hard time as well so she and Kayla took a private ski lesson while the rest of us skied. Bless her heart by the time she got the hang of the ski session was over for the day so we couldn't take her up the slopes.

Ready to go...where are our skis?!

It rained Saturday morning so we were not able to go sking. We went downtown for a little while and went to Ripley's Mirror Maze. The rain had stopped so we decided to head up to the slopes for the evening. Kayla in downtown Gatlinburg

It was so slushy that we couldn't take the kids up the slopes but let them practice on the practice slope.

We left the kids with the grandparents for a little while while we skied. Here we are on the ski lift. It was raining and my hair was soaked.

We changed clothes and headed to Bubba Gump's for a yummy late dinner.

This was the first time I had been to Gatlinburg as an adult. We had a GREAT time and actually want to go back to Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge sometime to see what else they have to offer. It looks like a fun place to take the kids:)
